Kat Foster’s short film, Earthquake Note, which can be summed up like this: “on the eve of her daughter’s first day of preschool, a mother’s attempt to write the perfect comfort note for the ‘earthquake kit’ spirals into an all-night reckoning with mortality and motherhood itself,” is on a festival tear since premiering at the Dallas International Film Festival in April. It’s playing on five different festival screens across two weekends this September, plus we had our a New York premiere back in August. If you want to hear about how we made the film, then read this.
Greenpoint Film Festival
Earthquake Note played the 15th annual Greenpoint Film Festival in Brooklyn on Friday, August 7 at 4:00 PM. I hear it was very well received.
Breckenridge Film Festival
First stop of the September run is Saturday, September 19, 10:00 AM, Eclipse Theater, Breckenridge, CO as part of “Women at the Center.” The festival is 46 years old this year, which is longer than most film festivals have existed! As a mountain lover, I wish I could attend. I had my bachelor party in nearby Nederland, CO last October and had a memorable ski trip to Breck back in February of 2015.
…and then everything happens in unison
This is the part where the calendar stopped cooperating. Four festivals, one weekend: three in Los Angeles and one in New York with two happening almost concurrently 2,787 miles apart!
Imagine This Women’s International Film Festival — Friday, September 25, 5:15 PM ET, Regal Union Square, NYC we play in Shorts Program 3. Which is 2:15 PM PT — meaning it plays just before we screen locally at Lady Filmmakers. This is the 11th Annual ITWIFF festival and I will be there in spirit.
Lady Filmmakers Festival — Friday, September 25, 4:00 PM, Fine Arts Theater, Beverly Hills. Earthquake Note plays in Program #5, “Ladies Illuminate: The Future Is Weird.” I plan to attend the 18th iteration of the festival.
Calabasas Film Festival — Saturday, September 26, 1:00 PM, MPTF Theater, Woodland Hills during Shorts Program 2. The 13th annual installment of the fest sounds like a blast. Unfortunately, I cannot attend.
Glendale International Film Festival — Sunday, September 27, 4:10 PM, Laemmle Glendale for “Program 34, Dramedy Shorts: Falling Apart.” They’re billing it as our California premiere. I regret to inform them they’re two days too late. Kat and I are excited to attend one of the closest screenings possible to where we shot the movie in Silverlake/Elysian Heights.
Temecula Valley Film Festival
Earthquake Note is in competition for the Golden Poppy Jury Award and Audience Choice Award at the Temecula Valley Film Festival, October 9–11 at Temeku Cinemas. Screening time still TBD and I’ll update this once it’s set.
San Jose International Short Film Festival
Earthquake Note screens at the 18th annual San Jose International Short Film Festival, October 22–25 at CineArts Santana Row. Program and screening time TBD.
