Sony FX9 and a set of Schneider XENON FF Prime Lenses arrive at Three Mile Films

For several years I’ve considered upgrading to the SONY FX9 Full Frame Cinema Camera. All the way back on January 30, 2020, I gave AbelCine my deposit for one. When it finally arrived on February 13, I had a change of heart. The current version of the firmware lacked some key features and I didn’t feel a pressing need to upgrade.

When the pandemic began shortly after, the relief of not making payments on a camera that would collect dust felt good. Perhaps prescient.

I’ve seen used bodies selling for extremely tempting prices lately. After much deliberation, I pulled the trigger on one a few weeks ago. It’s a wonderful camera and a welcome addition to my arsenal of cameras. I hope to add another FX camera to the line-up soon. Unfortunately, I can’t decide which one it will be. Deciding between the FX6 and 9 took way too long. I love the prospect of having the tiny FX3 in my camera bag as well.

Stay tuned.

To compliment this great full frame camera, I found a set of Schneider-Kreuznach XENON FF Lenses. It’s a magnificent set and I’m excited to use them for many years. They are all T2.1 and someday I will add the 18mm T2.4.

According to that video, they are the BEST lenses you’ve never used. Let’s change that together!

While operating for Yoram Astrakan many years ago, I spent lots of time with the 100mm. We affectionately dubbed it the “Schnauzer” since it was the only lens he owned from the set. In the time since, I adopted a Mini Schnauzer, Iris. When I came across a used set, it seemed like the logical next step for me. Now you understand why there is an AI image of Schnauzer puppy with a camera in this post!

Here are the tech specs: 25mm T2.1, CF 12”, 35mm T2.1, CF 14”, 50mm T2.1, CF 1’ 8”, 75mm T2.1, CF 2’ 6”, 100mm T2.1 CF 3’ 3” – PL Mount.

Is there a lens out there that you feel hasn’t gotten it’s due praise?
