In seventh grade, my friends and I started making videos for school projects whenever possible. By senior year of high school, I made an hour long movie with my best friend for class credit. My Uncle still thinks it’s a masterpiece.
With dreams of becoming the next Wes Anderson, I left the suburbs of Boston to study film at Northwestern University. After just a few college projects, I realized that crafting the lighting and composition of the frame brought me more joy than guiding an actor’s performance. At nineteen, I shifted my focus to my life’s passion: cinematography.
I ran to Los Angeles after graduation to work as a camera assistant and learn from amazing DP’s like Eric Steelberg ASC and Tim Orr. In between paid AC gigs, I shot specs with friends and took any kind of cinematography work that I could find to expand my reel.
In 2007, I shot my first narrative feature film at the age of 25 and transitioned into a full-time DP. In the years since, my work has screened at international film festivals in Venice, Vancouver, Telluride, Denver, Chicago, San Diego, and Boston to name a few.
Features, music videos, and commercials are my favorite types of projects. Since lensing Peter Bogdonavich’s The Great Buster, which won Best Documentary on Cinema at the 75th Venice International Film Festival, I’ve spent more time in the documentary world. My dream job would combine my love for cycling, music, and environmental activism through film.
