I’m having a tough time with this decision: to YouTube or not?
A savvy media professional advised that I stick with the universally accepted/trusted CDN that Google spent so much money acquiring. There are lots of positives: reliability, track record, and its inherent viral ability/ease of sharing across social networks. Unfortunately, I’ve seen the rocky development of the YouTube media player and still have a lingering distaste for its quality. That being said, their latest build is really strong. There is little to no difference between what you see on YouTube and what you can expect from a well compressed h.264 quicktime.
Then why are we all waiting? The choice seems clear: go with youtube.
And as hard as it is to say, I’m going to. Despite the inexplicable feeling in my stomach that screams, “amateur!” From what I’ve seen, very few professional cinematographers utilize YouTube as their CDN. Perhaps I’m just ahead of the curve…
Just in case you are using an iPhone, or don’t like YouTube, you can access H.264 quicktimes of almost all of my projects from my resume page. Perhaps I just like creating more work for myself…
Enjoy. And please let me know what you think about this dilemma!
