Warbringer, Chillerama, Newlymovedins, and more

It’s been a crazy few months and I haven’t been diligent with my blog. Some recent highlights include “Act Naturally” screening in Chicago last weekend to a packed house at the Chicago United Film Festival, “Chillerama” releasing it’s theatrical trailer along with numerous national tour dates, and shooting a web series for Vanishing Angle and a thrash metal music video for director Davey Vorhes. The good times continue this week when “Chillerama” makes its red carpet premiere at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on September 15th.

Back on September 8th JP Riley and Katie L. Hall stopped by Chicago’s Fearless Radio to promote the screening of “Act Naturally” along with the great Tom Schraeder & His Ego who has 7 songs on our film’s soundtrack. Sadly, I couldn’t join the folks in the midwest for the festival, but everyone had a great time.

Over Labor day weekend, I had the chance to collaborate with my buddy, Davey Vorhes, on our second music video together. The band, Century Media Recording artist, Warbringer, are a head banging quintet from Ventura, California. The single, ‘Shattered Like Glass,’ will appear on their upcoming LP entitled ‘Worlds Torn Asunder’ set for a September 27th release. Originally photography was set to take place on Saturday and Sunday, but our location requested that we do the un-American thing and work on labor day (don’t tell my union rep). Editorial is blazing along and I’ll be color correcting next week so we can release the video in time with the LP.

In the middle of August, I teamed up with director Jessica Brickman to shoot the first 10 episodes of a comedic web series that chronicles the adventures of a 20-something couple who just moved in together (aptly titled, “Newlymovedins”). Produced by Matt Miller/Vanishing Angle, we got some great material over the course of two warm summer days in Los Angeles. The dynamic couple, Kat Foster and Scott Rogers (pictured above), created the series and wrote the scripts as a vehicle for their comedic talents. It also marked the first time that I’ve had multiple issues with the otherwise dependable RED ONE-MX camera. There were numerous instances where I got the dreaded clip failure warning and we had to restart the camera. I’m blanking on the exact text, but those of you that have spent time with the RED know what I’m talking about (I’ve actively tried to block the words from my head). Thankfully, a few short delays weren’t a major detriment to our schedule. I’m really excited to see the final product as we got some great stuff. I also fell back in love with 400W Joker-Bugs and will insist on carrying them on every show again. Finally, if you have a chance to see Jessica’s recent film, “The Five Stages of Grief” do not hesitate. It is a wonderful film starring Fran Kranz and Jason Ritter…
